Are you reading them "in circuit"?
Best practice is to desolder them from the board.
MCUs and crystals can interfere with the readout
Hi guys
I've finally got round to buying a cheap upa USB programmer and Richard's decoder software. I've been having a play tonight with a couple of IPC's. The first one read fine after a few attempts which was a bog standard 1.8 astra ipc. The second one I'm having trouble with, which is a keyless vxr ipc. I can get some bits of coding, but not enough to pull the security codes. Is the chip damaged or do you think I could salvage it if I desoldered it? Or any other ideas?

Yes I am reading in circuit. Not the end of the world if not as I have the whole ECU kit I can read the codes from
I've always found instruments spit our garage, you could try lowering your reading voltage to stop other components becoming active
