    Astra H GID EEPROM erased

    Hi,

I'm new on the forum and have a special question:

Is it possible to generate a valid EEPROM bin file for an Astra H GID when all relevant information is known?

Because I accidentally erased the EEPROM on my GID

It all began when my GID started to develop display defects. Instead of buying a new one I got an old one one from Ebay, whose seller didn't know the code. That didn't matter then, as I only wanted to transplant the display pane to my own GID. All could have been well (and was), but then my weird brain developed an idea: What if I copy the EEPROM contents from my own GID to the EEPROM of the other one? Wouldn't it then become a twin of my own and could be swapped 1:1 without any further pairing hassle?
So I bought a cheap chinese EEPROM programmer and a SOIC8 test clip (because I didn't want to desolder the chips) and tried to read the contents of the EEPROMs. That was when doom hit me. It all went wrong, I never got reasonable readings and in the end somehow both EEPROMs got erased. This may sound like I'm a dimwit, but I swear I'm not (well, maybe I am ). I never hit the erase button, but somehow the electronics of the GID must have interfered with the programmer, resulting in the EEPROMs being erased. In the end I did desolder them and read them out again - but it was too late.

So now I have two malfunctioning GIDs and urgently need a valid EEPROM dump for reprogramming. I can deliver all the necessary data as far as I know it.

    Can anyone please help me?

    Data from Car Pass:

    VIN: W0L0AHL4848111912
    Security Code: 6076

    Data from GID housing:

    KP
    13111163 24.06.04-23
    Siemens VDO
    5WK70032 HWD3 SW55 13G5

If you need any more info from car pass or other components I'll do my best to look them up.

Got one with google, in 30 seconds. Unfortunate, if I upload here, you won't be able to download until you pay this site. So get going with google.

Believe me, I've been searching on Google for many days now and I found not a single dump I could download for free. I only found dumps inside forums (where I have to register) or on sites where I have to pay for download. No problem registering on a forum, but unfortunately that is no guarantee I can download anything afterwards.

Your search skills seem to be better than mine. Could you give me some hints on search words?

Don't get me wrong and please excuse me if I sound provocative, but do I need to pay to get a decent answer to my very first question?

      Hi,

It's not about paying to get an answer, I have put up a dump archive https://www.diagnostics.org.uk/help/...3-Dump-Archive so you can see which dumps can be downloaded and the info in them.

You will struggle to find someone who can create a full dump for you just to flash in which has the security code, radio information and car settings you are asking for as there is far more information in the settings than the security code and that alone doesn't pair the radio and screen together.

Your best option is to find dump from the same ident screen and have it programmed to the car correctly.

Unfortunately, servers, software and hosting cost money which I have to cover some how. As you have the programmer, if there is a suitable dump in the archive (If not ask what you need and I will see if I can add one), then £4 is the cheapest sub, which it would cost you 10x that to get someone in to fix it for you, so not that expensive after all.

      As above....

Once you get the correct ident for it you will have to program it to the car as there are bits of data shared between the screen and radio which you cannot easily replicated... and just for your information its the clip which caused it to be erased.. How do I know???? Because I've done exactly the same thing as you.... As to reload on a good file and start again.. Its where the clip moves on the chip and not connecting to all the pins it should do and corrupts / erases it..

As I said, don't get me wrong. It's just the fact that EVERYBODY on the net seems to try to make money from these dump files. I guess I'm just frustrated about that fact (and my misery).

@Soulman: I must be dumb. I've been searching Google, Yahoo and whatever else day and night and wasn't able to find ONE single dump file that can be downloaded for free, not even for another car type. In fact my search activity was what brought me here. There are loads of dump databases offering such files (mostly russian), but they all take your money, and without any guarantee. I really don't know where you have found "plenty of files".

I will consider paying for a subsciption, but first I have to know what exactly I'll have to do after I found a file that comes close to my configuration. Of course I guessed that there is much more in the EEPROM than just VIN and code (though I don't know what).
So the first step would be to load a dump into the EEPROM. What then? Do I need a Tech2 or OP-COM? Currently I don't have one, but have already considered buying one (clone, most probably). Would it also be possible to start from a completely empty EEPROM and program everything from scratch with an OP-COM? Or do I need some kind of data foundation to start from? Is the EEPROM data checksummed?

Once you have loaded a file, hopefully a divorced one.. then you make sure the midspeed canbus matches on both the display and radio... then you choose activate theft protection which then pairs the screen to the radio...

You cant start with an eprom with just FF FF 's everywhere.. there is a set structure to it even from the factory... the best you can hope for which works in all cases i've ever come across is to get one with the same ident as your planning on doing and then changing the code index, vin no, midspeed, lowspeed, highspeed cans to whatever you need which will then make it specific for your needs... there are checksums of sorts, ie you cannot just enter a security code directly into the dump to pair it to the radio as it doesnt work that way.. It shares data between the two units to lock them together...

and this time you will be removing the chip from the board to program it wont you..
