Starting problem

Ok guys think I mite know what's the problem just want a second opinion
rite went to go start the car (1.8 coupe) the other day and was like a flat battery all lights went off then all of a sudden the car turned over so left it a few days went to start it today did the same again and the fuel gauge went down and back up so took it for a long ish drive stopped it and started straight away so left it ten minutes did the same again and wouldn't turn over then kicked in itself any ideas ?

That sounds like a loose or broken connection to me or a knackered rectifier on the alternator

Yer I've been thinking the alternator but just kinda wanted a second opinion lol cheers buddy think I'm gona be changing the alternator then check all earths

I've just put one back on it was a earth strap at the front but it's still doing the same
