Thumbs up 1.9 cdti 150bhp - egr blanking

    Hi guys,

Recently had the very famous EGR code come up on the dash, 4005A. mileage 43000.

Drivability wise don't feel any difference but surely i'm not gonna leave it just like that.

Just purchased a full egr blanking kit with 2 plates and gaskets, looks easy to do judging from the comments I have been reading but would like to hear some personal experiences on here.

What differences am I gonna feel?
I've read stories of an engine not starting or running on limp mode after a EGR being blanked. Can this happen?
Also, the EML will be left on after this I am suposing. Is it possible to just clear this error o the ECU permanently?I am not interested on a remap, contacted Tuned and Styled but they just have a package that includes remap and egr delete.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi mate, you can fit the blanking plates in about 15 minutes, EML light will stay on though as the EGR won't be working as the ECU expects it to.

Your best bet would be to get the EGR blanked out via a remap (probably cost you about £200 ish) or you could drill a 5mm hole in the blanking plates so the EGR still functions but doesn't get as much crap going into it as normal or you can just buy a new EGR for £95 from eBay and fit it yourself.

I've had mine mapped out for 12 months, had no issues what so ever, I'm also much happier now knowing that my manifold is safe cuz no more exhaust gases are being allowed back into the engine.

Cheers mate, and do you feel any improvement?

"keep it clean" is also my idea mate.

but by having the eml light on, will it make the ecu confused or will it be mainly the case of the light being on with no negative consequences?

      cheers

Mine is also blanked but I'm yet to have it mapped out, I don't feel any difference other than being safe bin the knowledge that no further damage can happen to the manifold. I can live with the light on the dash board for now as it doesn't bother me, I can also switch the light off via my scan gauge by resetting the fault code if I'm going on a long journey where the light might otherwise get on my nerves

I couldn't answer that as I fitted mine after my last MOT, to be honest though I wouldn't worry too much, its a 10 minute job to remove it if they failed it for some reason.

No issues with the MOT at all mate. My car always goes into Vauxhall for it's yearly service and MOT, sailed through last year with no issues (that was with the EGR blanked)

To be honest I feel no difference when driving it, I just know that that the EGR isn't gonna fail and cost me almost £100.

In my mind it's a MUST DO mod.

Na we wouldnt check that on a mot as long as it dont smoke massivly after ull be fine. Bare in mind that DVSA are working on a diesle emmisions test now. Rather than just a smoke test dont know how it will work etc but i cant see it causing you any issue

I've blanked my car's egr today, omg its unbelievable the amount of gunk in there.

Used the full blanking kit, with one plate at the exhaust and another one at inlet mainfold, had to buy longer bolts for the part that goes in the inlet mainfold as the plates were quite thick.

I have now the engine light on, drives normally, slightly smoother and quieter I would say.

Is this light expected to be on after blanking the EGR?I was expecting the one with the spanner?

      Thanks

The engine light as you say is the emissions light. The car with spanner is the engine management light...emissions comes on to tell you the egr is not working correctly...
