Hi all I am looking at buying a vectra C 1.9 cdti 150. The one I am looking at has a problem with the gears as in it is notchy going into first but if you put it into 2nd then first it is ok! The problem only started after the engine was steam cleaned! Have any of you wonderful guys/gals out there have any idea on what the problem could be?

Hi mark, welcome to the forum
I wonder if water has gotten into the gearbox or maybe the selector is sticking after the steam has removed any grease from the selector fork assembly ?

That was my thoughts exactly. Hopefully it has been sorted now & I can collect it on saturday.

It'll be my second veccie the first being a 2lt dti hatch & this one being an estate.

Mines not a massive fan of 1st in the cold but in general its usually alright although ive just had the bearings done...

Sounds like a common problem as I spoke with someone who has a 63 plate siggy and first on that is notchy aswell Originally Posted by Ginger_Jez

My 1st is notchy aswell and mine is a new box so does seem to be common

never known water to get in a gearbox unless the filler plug is loose or missing check that first , sounds mechanical to me , id just drain and replace gear oil see if it makes a difference (when was it last changed ???) , mine isn't notchy what so ever
