If your a complete novice then i wouldnt change the cv joints yourself.. And have you tried and scrappys or breakers mate?
My zaf has failed its mot on the following:
Both front CV joints,
Discs and pads on front (which I was expecting)
Passenger headlight unit is apparently unsafe and needs a new one.
Does anybody have a spare zaf b headlight unit in their shed, garage, anywhere that isn't being used and could sell for a reasonable rate?
Does anybody know how much I should pay for CV joints and if they are easy to replace (by a total novice?)
Any help much appreciated
Martin

Discs and pads are easy enough. Cv joints are best left if your a novice. Can I ask why he said the light was unsafe. Is it the alignment or is the unit damaged?
My mate works at Delphi and could have got all the brake things for under £40 but there's a 2 week wait on disks so bit the bullet and budgeted for that to be fitted by Vx. To be fair I rang around and all quoted between £189-£230. I had a voucher for £40 off so used that.
After my post my other half contacted Chas's other half and its being looked at Saturday.
When I get the car later I need to check the car to see what's actually wrong. They mentioned alignment and also that the housing was damaged.

Car all sorted and MOT'd again
A huge thanks to Matt Ellis and Chas's other half Kyra for the last few days - if anybody else has had an input without my knowledge then a big thank you too!
It was nice to meet you Jay on Saturday and your gorgeous gsi!

bout £40 on joints mate but may have surcharge on em, may be able to get light assemblies at a reasonable price from a motor factor in your area too,
Should not fail on discs anymore unless significantly weakened. In the old day you could fail on excessive corrosion or pitting. Can still fail pads only if less than 1 mm remains, dought the tester has measured them!
Nah I needed new ones to be honest, I just forgot about when the MOT was due. I asked them to do the brakes before the MOT but no, they didn't. I know that they probably had put a time slot down for me and had to stick by it
