Having the cam belt redone after a water pump failure is going to be the least of your problems, if it does go then the pump will seize, stripping the cam belt of its teeth, knackering the tensioning roller pulley, causing the cambelt to snap at which point the timing will go out and the pistons will crown all 16 valves, bending most, if not all of them...

That means a new or reconditioned head, or all 16 valves replaced and each one will have to be cut in and seated properly, new head gasket and stretch bolts, new cam belt, new water pump, possible new inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets and bolts, thats if the exhaust manifold gaskets don't shear off...

Then it will have to be timed up and thats after you've paid to have all the other work put right...

Don't EVER have a cam belt changed WITHOUT a BRAND NEW water pump, if it's a chargeable option on the bill, INSIST it get's done at whatever cost, you've come this far and had the cam belt done, get the job done PROPERLY...

Cam belt alone is false economy, believe me...

I know, I could just picture the pound signs when he was looking at money saving when he saw that the water pump was extra on that bill of Matt's...

If he has that done without water pump, I'll slap him myself

I'll let you off then, it's naughty that they don't just list it as a complete job, simply because no-one in their right mind would do one without the other

yes really does make sense in changing this at the same time. I've also realised that if you go to a few Vauxhall garages for quotes they can very quite considerably i was given one quote of £369 by one of the main dealers and another of £334 on the same day.

To give you an idea of cost and parts replaced on mine iv got the receipt below this was done a few days after i purchased my car in November.
