i wanted to know why people blank off their egr's? what's the purpose, does it reduce the need to clean it every few months or does it make the problem worse. i haven't cleaned out my egr yet but i intend to do so after winter passes. i can imagine anybody who doesn't know about cars (prev owner) at all, it'll be absolutely filthy.
and if it is helpful is it an easy job? it sounds long winded to me
haha thanks but my question at the bottom was about blanking the egr as opposed to cleaning itCleaning the egr is a relatively straight forward job, but there are a few precautions you need to take.
1) Make damn sure you don't drop the gaskets down the back of the engine as you can't get them back.
2) Make sure you clean it properly and reassemble properly otherwise it will throw a code up
3) Take your time, its a messy job and done right does make a difference to your power (mine did when it was last cleaned)
There are plenty of how to's on the net
If you can live with an EML light then fully blank it. It stops soot going back into the inlet manifold which in turn reduces the likelihood of the swirl flaps failing (presuming you have the 1.9 150)
Ive had mine partially blanked but now in unblanked. I will fully blank mine after winter
ah excellent, is there a guide online how to do it? or is it a part you'd buy
About 3 quid off ebay matey
Mine was fully blanked and mapped out.. I had no eml light when i owned it
Since my new inlet manifold and egr, mine has been blanked off, EML has been on since, but I just do a weekly pedal test.
A little more smoke out the rear, but no difference to the car.
