You will not get outside temp working as it is that and the trip computer which is not compatible. Does it say a constant -40 or just F
I assume you have tried turning the van lights on when you are looking for the head unit illumination?
Hi all, need some techy advice...
my vivaro was fitted with standard cd30 mp3 and i am trying to retro fit a cdc40 DAB with GIB display from a vectra c and i'm having some issues??
Everything is powering up ok radio works, cd plays and DAB works ok but i can't seem to get the outside temp working or getting the head unit to illuminate?(buttons not the display) i am aware that the trip computer will not work but i'm not really fussed about that!! does anyone have any words of wisdom? or shall i give up and drink beer instead........... i wait patiently, so hurry up

Wow, first post a straight to the boss !!
As i said, not really bothered about the computer functions but would like the unit to light up.
Yes i have located the illumination wire(blue) on my vivaro but there are no wires to connect it to on the GID? on the old cd30mp3 the blue wire went into the display and i assume that told the head unit to light up but on the cdc40 the display(GID) has half as many wires which all go somewhere? the only 2 wires i have left coming out of the GID are 2 solid green wires? which when i traced back on the old vectra dash loom one when to the airbag module?(well it had airag wires going into the plug) and the other when to a large plug? maybe where it connected to the engine loom???so where that went ,who knows!
so any ideas where the head unit gets its orders to light up from? cheers Glenn
and as for the temp display it registers "F" all the time.
The wiring connectors are here for what you have

I've never had to look at the wiring on a Vivaro so not sure off the top of my head
I believe that the radio just has permanent power to it and it is the canbus signal which tells it to light up. On my bench loom it only lights when I fake a key in signal on the CIM. The Vivaro may not have those messages on the canbus.

Sorry but i don't know what "CIM" is? and as for canbus, i don't think my vivaro has it? its quite basic! so do you think its possible for my to "hotwire" it somehow to make them work?
CANBUS is a data network in the car. Messages get carried through it which has sensor readings and information about the car. Those wires are the green and white ones usually and at a guess, the Vivaro will be half can. You must have some CAN wires as that is how the radio communicates with the display.
The CIM is the module behind the steering wheel which deals with steering angle, imobiliser and key signals. The Vivaro may not have this part, can't check on this PC at the moment so commenting blind.
As in for hotwring, then probably no, it will be a data message you need rather than a 12v power feed.

BUGGA!!!!
i started with such good intentions, all for naught!!
How about i take the headunit apart and put a feed straight to the lights? What do you think, possible??
