common problem could be a failing battery in the key or alternatively the battery or casing is loose.
i have this on the work car at the moment where the case is slightly loose allowing the battery to move.
Hi all
I have a 56 reg Vectra 1.8 Design.
The remote central locking has an intermittent fault. Occasionally it seems to fail to respond (whether locking or unlocking), until I open door manually with the key, setting the alarm off, and then turn on the ignition, which seems to reset the system and it works again (for a while). Grateful for any suggestions?
Thanks
John

Thanks Soulman, but the car battery looks fine. Doesnt seem to be the key, both my keys do the same thing and fault is definitely fixed (for a while) by turning on and off the ignition.
Someone has suggested getting an Opcom kit on my other thread, I might try that here and see if anything shows up.
have seen similar problem but it was button in remote failing or coming loose, any other problems or faults? Like dropping dials dash flickering etc?
if both keys are doing it (forgetting the key) then its pointing possibly towards the CIM unit as this is what picks up the key when you press a button. Also beware that if you have added any additional items onto the canbus using a permanent live this can cause issues as I found out to my cost...
Cim fault was common on preface especially cims with 2 mcus, if both keys hardly used than wont disclose checking them first takes only 5 min if its not a keys than next is cim thats why i asked if any other faults or problems seen, if its cim than 1st check airbag dual or single stage as steering wheels is different and one uses 1 wire other 2
Thanks guys, now that I've realised the CIM is on the steering column, its worth mentioning that I've also had trouble occasionally with the cruise control. It drops out of cruise mode sometimes if you touch the indicator stalk - I thought it might be a poor earth or something. So might be the same thing causing the locking issue.
cruise control fault can be one of four things normally, dodgy stalk, dodgy connections to stalk inside the CIM, clutch switch or brake switch
Yes cruise fault doesnt tell much. Try plugging diag tool and check if any fault code stored
Thanks, I'll get Opcom once I've sorted out a laptop that doesnt use Windows 8. Cheers for help.
