    astra 1.7cdti mk5 alternator charging

hi can anyone tell me please the charging number for the output, as when l put on a load ie: lights, blower, heated rear window im getting just over 12.2 v.
with no load im getting around 13.9 to 14.1.
trouble is im finding lots of people with different answers given?
am l right in saying that under load it should still keep to over 14v?
thanks in advance for any help?

looks bit too low when running
when engine off should read around 12.2 -12.4V
engine running 14.0-14.4V it should keep in these readings but can drop till around 13.8 or 13.9V not lower

have you aftermarket sound system installed amp etc?

no all stuff on car is original and no add ons.
had alternator fixed few years ago, but have noticed if you rev to about 2000 revs the charging does increase a tad.
on sons car it will give 14.2v with a full load to it on tick over, is it normal on the astra to need a good rev to charge it?
the old fashion dynamo on old cars needed a good run thats what i always thought where the alternator would give a good output on tick over?
also to add no battery light is on in car but just checked the charging the other day and noticed the output.
with 2000 rev with full load on its getting about 13.6v which to me is under charging?
      your views please?

13.6 that's definitely too low on 2000 revs it should read over 14V around 14.4V
Looks like you need to prepare for new alternator or refurbish existing one

thanks again for your advice i have already got one on order about £180 as did have the rectifier changed on this one but thought might as well go all the way?
also heard mixed reports on the gm/ motor factor replacement than buying vaux genuine alternator?

well I don't think you need change rectifier again but lets see how it will do on new alternator
cant advise you on gm replacement or Vaux ones as I got mechman s series 320AMP alternator fitted custom mounts etc had it in impreza before for audio system, car is scrapped but alternator i kept as 600 bucks wont be best to scrap so fitted in astra

It might be the battery problem. How old is it?
