High-pressure headlamp wash system

The Astra-H can be fitted with a high-pressure headlamp wash system as optional equipment. If the Astra-H is ordered with xenon headlamps or AFL, a high-pressure headlamp wash system is fitted as a matter of course. In contrast to the Astra-G, the high-pressure headlamp wash system on the Astra-H is set into the front panelling, thus creating a harmonious appearance that does not upset the smooth lines of the car. The location of the high-pressure jets prevents the jet openings from getting blocked by dirt. Vehicles without high-pressure headlamp wash systems do not look any different from those with high-pressure headlamp wash systems. These vehicles also have a panel incorporated into the front panelling on the left and right-hand sides.

Method of operation

The high-pressure headlamp wash system is only operational after the ignition has been switched on and the lights are on. The spray jets extend at the same time as the windscreen wash system is operated. The pressure generated by the high-pressure pump acts against the spring force of the spray nozzles and pushes the spray nozzles outwards. The twin spray nozzles located on each side of the vehicle spray washer fluid at high pressure onto the headlamp glass to wash away any dirt. Once the cleaning process is over and the high-pressure pump cannot build up any more pressure, the spring force pulls the spray nozzles back into their original positions.

Actuating the high-pressure headlamp wash system

The high-pressure headlamp wash system is actuated by pulling the right-hand steering wheel stalk towards the steering wheel. The action sprays wash fluid twice onto the headlamps. The high-pressure headlamp wash system is operational again after 2 minutes. If the washer fluid level is too low, the headlamp wash system is deactivated. If the vehicle has a rain sensor ensure that the sensor zone is kept free of dirt, thereby guaranteeing activation of the high-pressure headlamp wash system.

Reservoir

The filler neck of the reservoir for the windscreen wash system and headlamp wash system is located at the front next to the left-hand headlamp. The maximum fill quantity is listed in the Owner's Manual. Only top up with clean water, so that the jets do not get blocked. To increase cleaning performance and to offer frost protection in the winter, we recommend adding Opel washer fluid and antifreeze.
