    Meriva 1.7cdti fails to start!

    :welcome:
    Hello All,
I have had my Meriva 1.7CDTI for nearly five years and still love it, most
Of the time lol. Just recently I have had issues starting it, and occassionally
    Cutting out and won't restart!.
The only way I can get it to restart is by unplugging a plug at the top of
The engine, just back a bit from the Eco tech plastic cover on the top.
There are two identical plugs, one comes from the right hand side,
And the other from the left hand side (drivers side). The left hand plug is
The plug that seems to reset the problem. They both plug into
A box bolted down by the Eco tech plastic cover!
The car has been checked and no fault could be found! The car was
Also running ok at the time. The garage said bring it back when it fails
And we will have a look. The next time it failed I had to unplug and
Plug back in to get it going. I then took it back to the garage! Again no
Faults were found! The car is a 2005 model and i would love to fix it.
    Please please help.
    Kind regards
    Coxiej

      Hi, welcome to the site.

Unfortunately it isn't anything I have come across before, and if you are not having any fault codes it makes it extremely difficult for me to give any clue.

Only thing I can say at the moment, is when it gets to the point of not working, try the pedal test (It may work on the Meriva) When you plug and unplug it may be clearing the code.

      Hi Pecky,
Thanks for your help. I will try an old friend who probably can lown me a diagnostic reader (if I ask nicely lol) to extract code before I try to clear codes. I will post when it does it next. What is the pedal test ? How is it done please.

The pedal test is done before the car is started.

      1. Fully press both the accellerator & brake and keep pressed
      2. Turn the ignition to II but do not start the car.
      3. Note down any codes which come up in the mileage display.
It may or may not work on the Meriva, never tried it.

That sounds like the common rail to me
