Agreed, sounds like mass air flow sensor. Start by checking the wiring and loom
Should not fail on discs anymore unless significantly weakened. In the old day you could fail on excessive corrosion or pitting. Can still fail pads only if less than 1 mm remains, dought the tester...

There is a technical bulletins on this. There is a wire loom and need to replace the rad coolant temp sensor. You have to re route the wiring too. Will print it off for you along with part numbers...

Use to repair them myself. Not done one for a while though. Will most probably be ecu, use to get at least 1 t/c stored though.
Will put them in to Vauxhall tis2web for you tomorrow and see what I can find for you in the way of technical bulletins.
